澳洲人使用口語俚語相當頻繁, 俚語的特色多半是將原字簡化,或幽默,或諷刺,或與文化淵源有關的字語. 有的相當有趣. 下面是一些常用俚語介紹,

A：
Arvo: afternoon     下午
Ace: excellent! Very good!     太棒了
Amber fluid = beer:     啤酒
Aussie: Australian:     澳洲人
 
B：
Barbie: barbecue     烤肉
Beg yours?     “I beg your pardon?” 的簡略形式，用於”麻煩你再說一次”
blind     喝得太多以至於看不清楚
bloody     “該死的”，輕微的詛咒。(注意：在澳大利亞人心目中，這個詞與blood”血”並無關係)
Buckley’s     沒有機會。

Buckley 是一個特別倒楣的歷史人物，因此，Buckley’s chance(Buckley), = no chance一點機會也沒有.
Bikkie: biscuit     餅乾
Bloke: man, guy     男人、小子
Bludger     懶惰的人，總是依賴別人的人
Blue: fight     打架
Bog in     (指用餐時) 開動，大快朵頤
Bonzer: great, excellent     很好，非常好
Bottle shop: liquor shop     指賣酒的店
Brekkie: breakfast     早餐
Brizzie: Brisbane     布里斯本 (昆士蘭的首都)

Chook     小雞
Ciggy: cigarette     香煙
Cluey     此字源於”clue”(線索). Cluey表示某人伶俐；機警；聰慧。”cluey” 就是能夠敏感的發現周圍的線索.
Cuppa: a cup of tea or coffe     一杯茶或咖啡
Chrissie: Christmas     聖誕節
Chuck a sickie     假生病，請假不上班
Cockie: cockroach     蟑螂
Coldie:beer     啤酒

g’day: hello! How are you?     你好  澳大利亞問候語，用於對較熟的人或朋友打招呼.. 切記它並不適用於職業場合.

Grog: liquor, beer, wine     啤酒，白酒
Good onya: good for you, well done     真棒，做的真不錯!
Going off     (指派對或夜生活場地) 玩瘋了！(美加地區亦同)

Hoon     原字為hooligan. 流氓

Journo: journalist     新聞，從業人士

kiwi     紐西蘭人
kindie: kindergarten     幼稚園
knock: criticise     批評
